Menopause - The Change: No More Periods...
|
If you believe, as we do (to a certain degree), what they're
saying - that 50 is the new 30 - then what better time
in the history of women to go through menopause?!
You can look great,
feel great, all the while not having periods.
Menopause gets a bad
rap, mocked and joked about much like its little sister PMS. (We will,
however, admit, if you've ever seen That 70s Show, the Kitty in
menopause scenes are pretty funny, if not highly relate-able!)
Now, true, if you're experiencing
perimenopause or menopause, you know -- all too well -- that there can
be some less than pleasant days: uncontrollable hot flahses at exactly the wrong
time and worst place, mood swings that you could never have imagined (even if
PMS was a past pest), waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat
(who turned the heat on...oh! the a/c is on!),
just to name a few of the symptoms you may experience.
But this aside, menopause, or the "change of life" at it is often called,
can actually be a fantastic stage in life, if not the very best.
Consider some of the many advantages to menopause - life without a period!:
- NO MORE PERIODS. It's the definition of menopause: menstruation
stops completely. So if you've ever lamented your life and AF's monthly
intrusion into it, rejoice: the witch is, well, dead and, ding-dong, she
isn't coming back!
- No more periods means no more feminine protection. No need to worry
anymore about having supplies on-hand. No more leak concerns. More money
in your pocket!
- No more periods means no more ovulation. By menopause, when
periods have completely stopped, our egg supply is depleted. Spontaneity
in intimacy like never before, assuming your libido and you are interested.
-
No more OPKs, no more HPTs. More money saved.
- No need for birth control. Cha-ching!
- Wear what you want when you want without having to worry about
your period interfering.
- No more planning around your period, or changing plans due to your period.
- No more cramps. No more PMS symptom. We agree if you're thinking these are replaced
by menopause symptoms, but for many women, these abate after a few years (as opposed to
40 years of periods).
The permanent absence of having a
period is a windfall! Having survived 40 years of monthly cycles, Menopause
is a right of passage into women's next phase - and a new found freedom
from periods!

| What is Menopause?
Menopause, defined as 1 year without a menstrual period, on average
occurs at age 51, but for some women it can occur earlier.
Perimenopause is the precursor to menopause, a time when hormonal
shifts cause changes to our reproductive systems, including menstrual
periods that may become longer or shorter, and menstrual cycle irregularity.
A variety of menopausal symptons can occur, including hot flashes and night
sweats, changes in sleep patterns, and more.
