First Period Experience

Where were you when your first period started? How old were you? Did you talk to your mom, friends? What was your initial reaction? Retrospectively, could it have been different or more positive experience, and, if so, how?

Friday the 13th .....Lucky or No?

i got my first period the summer between 8th and 9th grade. it was july 13. a friday. ha! ironic, no? i was at a bbq with my family and some friends of the family. i had been feeling a bit off for a few days prior and even noticed my breasts were a bit tender but thought nothing of it. then i got home. i went to use the bathroom and voila! aunt flo had come for her first visit. i was excited and scared at the same time. i had asked my mom to buy me pads just in case, which i kept in my closet so i was prepared.

Family Affair

I was 9 when I got my first period. It wasn't so much embarrasing because I didn't understand what it was. I had just recently moved to Chicago. It was my first summer here. A lot of my family came for a gathering and later invited all the kids to spend the weekend at her house. In the town she stayed in there was a carnival and during the event I kept feeling wet and soggy in my underwear. It was a very hot day so I thought it was sweat. That's until I went back to the house to use the bathroom. Surprise, Surprise! I was to shy to tell someone that I had red stuff in my underpants,so I ignored it and tried not to sit on the furniture. I kept checking myself and one my cousins noticed and pulled me to the bathroom. I showed her my underwear and that's when the real fun began.Everyone was older than me but I was the first to get aunt Flo. They taught how to use a pad and then I called my mom to let her know. But best about the whole situation is, the one cousin who teased me the most about getting my period before her, got hers days later...HA_HA

Perfect timing

The timing of my first period was absolutely hilarious. There's a health museum in a nearby city that we had gone on multiple fieldtrips to. They did programs on everything from diet/exercise to the circulatory system to smoking/alcohol. Well, it was the end of 6th grade, I was 12, and we went on a field trip to learn about -guess what?- reproduction! It covered everything. anatomy, female cycling, fetal development etc... We were almost done with the presentation when I felt IT. I went to the bathroom afterwards, and sure enough! Luckily it started out VERY light, so some wrapped up toilet paper worked just fine till I got home. Still, the timing couldn't have been better! I still think the subject matter of the presentation gave it a little boost;)

I'm a Woman!

I was in sixth grade, I was twelve years old! I was at school when I started. I went to the nurse and asked her to call my mom so I could go home. I was in a lot of pain and pretended that I was sick. I didn't want anyone to know that I started my period. But, once I realized what I was saying I was wrong! I was actually happy because at that point I became a WOMAN!

My First Period.......Finally!

I didn't get my first period until I was 15! My little sister got hers at 10, a year before me. I was playing outside in the rain puddles in white shorts...needless to say, I wasn't the first to notice! I ran inside and took care of it.Snce I was wating forever for it I was prepared. Everyone in my family starts around 9 or 10 so I was way behind. I usually only get 6 or 7 a year and the only symptom I have is craving chocolate and pretzels for three weeks, a week before during and after! a Take 5 candybar does the trick at least one a day, it's not healthy but I only do it a few times a year so I treat myself.
