First Period Experience

Where were you when your first period started? How old were you? Did you talk to your mom, friends? What was your initial reaction? Retrospectively, could it have been different or more positive experience, and, if so, how?

my mum didnt beleive me!

Started when i was 12, on a holiday with my dad,my brother and my male cousin. I was too embarassed to tell them so i survived on toilet paper for a day or two...then when i got home and told my mum she went "no, you can't have" ...really supportive huh?! well after i'd gone "well what's all this blood in my knickers then?" she came round to the idea...i think being the oldest kid she was a little flummoxed on how to deal with it all!

Late starter

I was at school in 7th grade and I was 13 years old. I was extremely relieved that it came because I was 1 month and half away from turning 14 and I knew that I was kind of a "late" starter. I had been waiting for it to happen since the 5th grade. I was behind because I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when I was 12 years old. This caused me to lose 20 lbs in a 2 week time and it set my puberty back quite a bit. It took a while to regain the weight after diagnoses so needless to say I was embarrased to be the just about the only girl in my peer group to not have her period. All in all it was a positive experience because I finally felt like a woman and included with my peers.

It was very close to my 12th birthday, the day before i think. I woke up in the morning with my entire front (belly sleeper) covered. I just called for my mom, she got me a pad and that was that. I was kinda on my own to deal.

entering into womanhood

I was about 12 and I went with "the girls" to Florida for a week in the summer. We went to a reasturant to eat and my stomach started to really hurt and i thought I was getting sick or something. So I excused myself to the bathroom and there it was. I was mortified. I didn't want to tell my two Aunts and Grandma so I just used as much tp as possible and went back out. I made it through the dinner but just wanted to go back to the condo telling them I was sick. Later I was sitting by the pool and my grandma asked why I wasn't swimming and I told her I wasn't hot even though it was atleast 90 out (It was the middle of July). I had to confess my secret. My GRANDMA then called my dad and told him and then called my grandpa.... they were all so excited I had entered womanhood she wanted to take me out for Icecream. When we came back from vacation my entire family had known by then..brothers uncles and all I guess you'd say we are a close knit family.
