No Periods, Less Periods

I don't like taking pills to pollute my body, so I'm not for taking a pill to stop my period.

There's a reason we have our periods the way we do. I think stopping our flow might lead to complications.

I took the pill for one month, when I was in my early 20's, for.... acne. I reacted so bad to them that I swore I would never go near them again. I have always used condoms, ever since. I am now 38 years old. I never had any unwanted pregnancies and when I did want to get pregnant it took me a month to conceive. I didn't get my period the whole time I was breasfeeding (13 months) and felt like I had PMS the whole time!!!! It was awful. When I stopped breasfeeding I got my period 3 days later and was so happy to get it. I lost 3 kilos during that period. My periods are regular again and I look forward to getting them every month. Not that I love them or anything but they remind me of the cycle of life and I can't imagine stopping them artificially.

I really believe that we have periods for a reason, and suppressing them could possibly be damaging in the future. I read that some contraceptives taken at an early age could lead to osteoporosis at a later age. Our bodies are made to have periods the way they do, and I don't think changing it is natural.

At age of 11 I experienced my first period, by the time I was 14 I started to have irregular cycles so I went to a gyn and she put me on BP pills to 'regulate' my cycle. I stayed off and on pills until I was 20. So in actuality I had not had a 'natural' period for those past 6yrs. I tried the patch for a brief period but was mostly on pills. I eventually stopped and hoped that it would would become regular. It was at the age of 22 I found out I had premature ovarian failure. A condition where my ovaries have 'shut down' and I don't produce even follicules to even have eggs to even ovulate. It was a devastating and hard pill to swallow. I have enough hormones to see light periods but I can't ovulate. I have really only 2 options to have a child: adopt or egg donation. And there is only a 5% chance my body can 'kick back' into 'gear' and ovulate again. Sometimes I think that maybe being on pills for so long at a young age had an affect on me. for Godsake I wasn't even sexually active until i was 17!!!

I think the birth control I took is what effects the fact that I cant seem to get pregnant! When I first started taking birth control i was taking the pill but I would always forget to take it so I was then put on the Patch, but then I broke out in hives and a terrible rash because we found out that I was allergic to the latex on my skin so they put me on the Nuva Ring. I was on that for almost 1 1/2 yrs. (THATS IT!) and now I cant get pregnant because I dont even have a period on my own. They told me that I dont even produce the hormones to cause me to have a period. I think it directly is effected by the birth control. I am here now telling you all that if you are wanting to try birth control, take extra precautions that you may be in my same shoes down the road!

I suppressed my periods for about a year and then decided to have a baby. Pregnancy went smoothly and birth was normal, however after the birth my periods never returned. I went through 10 months of tests and emotional trauma being told i would not have children again. My baby's first year was tainted with my issues. Then all of a sudden my periods returned, I thank the Lord everyday. Ladies, don't mess with your periods, its nature!!!
