Since we started MyMonthlyCycles in 2003, menstrual cup usage has exploded world-wide, in large part due to the Divacup, which paved the way for the multitude of cups now on the market in 2023.

Since the menstrual cup is worn internally like a tampon, some up to 12 hours, it's obviously paramount to do your homework and make sure the period cup you choose is manufactured to the highest standards, like the Divacup. More recent to market are re-usable menstrual discs, growing in popularity and also worn internally. A disposable version preceded these.

Washable pads have also increased in popularity. Like re-usable cups and discs, they have less impact on the environment than the billions of disposed tampons and pads dumped in landfills and plastic applicators in oceans, not to mention having helped support many a plumber who's called in to dislodge flushed pads that clog toilets and sewer systems.

Ironically, when we reached out to a washable pad maker in the early aughts, they declined to advertise on MyMonthlyCycles, deeming our audience too mainstream. How times have changed! Products like washable pads and menstrual cups, once relegated to back shelves in early health food markets, are now ubiquitous on Amazon.com and in many local drugstore chains!
