Feminine Protection Usage

What was the first type of feminine protection you used - pads, tampons, menstrual cup? Do you still use the same feminine protection, or did you switch completely - when, why?

Diva Cup!!!

Diva cup all the way!!! I used tampons for years and then when I was training for swimming everyday my coach told me to use a cup instead. So I resentfully ordered my Diva and now I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I went on vacation a little while ago and got my period by surprise while I was there so I borrowed some tampons from a friend... it was horrible... I could feel it and it was so weird and leaked and just was not pleasant. I will never travel without my Diva again... Everyone please try this. I know it seems a little odd to stick a cup inside you and then empty and reinsert but it is so nice. I no longer have bad cramps during my period, I empty it only in the morning and before bed and never have a leak. It is better for the environment and can be used when camping and traveling without having to pack and try to dispose of tampons or pads!

Cloth pads for me!

When I got my first period at age 12 I used disposable pads. Around age 14 I started using tampons. I took birth control pills for many years without a break and did not have a period, so I did not need feminine protection. Then at age 28 I got a paragard IUD (had horrible side effects to birth control and suffered far too long). I started using cloth menstrual pads because I feel they are better for women and the enviroment. It is gross to think how those disposable, plastic products stack up and sit in land fills forever and some even get into our oceans. Not to mention the chemicals used to make those items poison our bodies and the enviroment too. Since using cloth pads my body feels much better.

Tampons

I used pads (yuck) for the first 4 (!!!!) years of my period and then switched to tampons and never went back. I even use them during the night. The only time I used pads again was after I gave birth because tampons can't be used.

Diva Cup Worth it's Weight in Gold

Originally when I first started at about age 12 I used pads, but my periods were heavy and the super duper sized pads always felt like diapers and were embarrassing to me even if they couldn't be seen under my clothes. Not to mention there didn't seem to be a purse big enough to carry all that I needed for simple 8 hour school days, and still had leakage problems as they seemed to slip out of place.

Yet as soon as I turned 16 I decided that enough was enough and I switched to tampons. When I first used them I would have sworn that they were the best thing ever. But it got to the point where even the super plus size wasn't enough protection and I was having to change them every 2 to 4 hours and still use a pad as a back up for those annoying leaks.

Then when it looked like I was taking a trip to the Philippines to marry my fiance, I did some research on traveling. Much to my surprise I found out about the Diva Cup, and decided to give it a whirl. Talk about a total life saver on a 15 hour flight ... and it is decent enough that it can handle my heaviest days with only needing to be emptied and rinsed out once a day. It is worth it's weight in gold!

So in the end, one couldn't pay me enough to use something other then my Diva Cup. But it's not for those who are squeamish about their bodily functions.

Mooncup all the way...!

The Mooncup (same as Diva cup I guess but I'm in the UK) is a girl's best kept secret in my view. Started with pads, moved to tampons, back to pads when I went to live in the Middle East. Then moved back to the West and had a short try back with tampons before returning to the pads as my periods had become shorter and less painful when I used them but the pain came back BIG time on trying tampons again. Have recently discovered the cap and can't believe I waited so long before trying it. Do need to empty and rinse every few hours on the first couple days which can be annoying at work but with just a panty liner as backup it is THE way for me 'til the menopause!

The Keeper

I love my keeper which I have been using for 4 months now. I started on pads when I was in Jr. High, moved to tampons in highschool- and thought those were the only options. Last year I found out about the keeper and did some research and made the switch. I will NEVER go back!
