Question
What is the Progestin Only Minipill and why would I use it?
Answer
NorQD and Micronor are birth control pills that contain only progestin
(norethindrone) and no estrogen. They are excellent choices for breastfeeding
women, and patients who cannot take estrogen containing pills (like
smokers over the age of 35). With perfect use it is over 99%
effective, and with typical use it is more than 90% effective.
The minipill is a lot less forgiving than estrogen containing pills,
and failure and irregular bleeding are increased if pills are missed
or taken more than a few hours late.
