Contraceptive Choices

we use only condoms and they have worked so far! for about a yr and no preganancy!
hated the pill and side effects and did not want to be taking those drugs any longer.
at this point, we are happy and ready to be pregnant in this time of our marriage so not worried at all.

Having used the pill (very briefly), the patch, and most recently nuva ring, I decided to switch to the rhythm method primarily because of the real and potential side effects. For me, the libido suppression was real and the potential for weight gain was problematic. The weight gain bit was a big deal for me - though in retrospect there is no evidence that I gained alot of weight as a result of the hormones. In any case, 7 months to my wedding, I took my chances with the rhythm method and haven't bothered switcing back. Obviously, it doesn't help to always worry about whether I blew it this month or not, but given the fact that my husband and I will want a family in the next 2 years, I am somewhat comforted knowing that my body has been free of hormonal birth control for nearly 1 year. Right after I have 2 children, I'm all about a birth control method that can be in place for 5 years.

Right now I'm using the Patch. Its great because you don't forget as easily but there are down sides. Like if you're in the water it comes off, it leaves dry patched on your skin where it has been. It looks disgusting after a few days and makes your skin itch. And there's all the lawsuits. I'm switching back to the pill very soon.

I was on birth control pills for 5 years but had trouble remembering. Went on Depo for a year but hated the mood swings and lack of sex drive. We currently use condoms and other than having to remember to have one on us it has been no problems now for about 1 1/2 years.

I have used condoms, pills , shots and now IUDs and so far the Mirena IUD has been best because im a busy married mom and i wanted something i didnt have to think about everyday,and long lasting. (Mirena is good for 5 yrs)I recommend it to any woman. The Cons are the irregular periods, its getting harder and harder to track them, but other than that i love my Mirena IUD:)and i would never switch.

I've always used a diaphragm. The best part about it is that I use it only when I need it and I can put it in a few hours beforehand. The worst part about it is that it's messy, both inserting, and afterwards. But, it's never failed me, so I'm happy with it and will stick with it.
