First Period Experience

Where were you when your first period started? How old were you? Did you talk to your mom, friends? What was your initial reaction? Retrospectively, could it have been different or more positive experience, and, if so, how?

First Period Experience

My first period.

When I got my period for the first time I was 11 years old and it was the summer before I was to start Jr. High. Not that starting a new school wasn't hard enough getting my period was the icing on the cake. I remembered watching those videos that they had shown us in school just the year prior and so that helped alot. What happened was I woke up and was about to go eat my morning cereal and watch cartoons when I realized that my underwear felt abit damp. When I got to the bathroom I had a brown discharge. Luckily (or unluckily I should say) for me I had an older sister who had already experienced all of this so I went to her and she informed me that I had goten my period. I was devastated to say the least, but what topped it off was that she called everyone in our family and ALL of HER friends to let them know that Aunt Flo was now a part of my monthly routine! When My mom got home she said nothing to me about it but, "ok". (and she wonders why I was pregnant at 19) My sister did help alot even though she had embarassed me. I am thankful to have had an older sister.

don't do as your mom did

I was 9 and did not know anything about periods. So I was out playing with my friends and kept having pains.I thought better get to the bathroom. And I believed I had hurt my self and just kept changing panties and shorts. My mom realised something was wrong when I kept going to bathroom with clothes. So I told here I had hurt myself playing in the trees and was bleeding. That's when she stared at me and gave me a pad and a booklet. Now later as a adult I asked her why did she do that she said that's what her mother did.I however cried when my girls started their's knowing that my little girls were little women. And on thier special day we had our own celebration.

my period exspirence

I knew it was going to happen, at that summer way back when, I grew taller, and then began eating more, and my grandmother was saying to my mom, you know what is happening to her now. I was going through that no more little girl faze, I guess they saw it before it happened, then the first week of school and the 6th grade, can you believe it...

At least it was at home when it started, but it was not fun at all... I Had cramps upset stomach and felt weird...I did not even tell my mom i just used her supply and then she saw what was happening and asked is there anything that you want to talk to me about? a week later, it was over I said no,she told the whole family, it was not private at all.

I wish we had been like the Cosby show, where it was "womans day"
remember that show, when Rudy got her period, and the perfect mom Claire took her out for it....not me just another girl in class with the curse.

Car sickness?

Let's see, I was 12 when I started my period. My parents and siblings were headed back home from a Saints game in New Orleans. I remember lying in the floor of the backseat of the car, I was soooo car sick. I must have looked as bad as I felt, because my mom told my dad to pull over. So, he exited off the interstate at a gas station. I went to the bathroom, and when I looked down at my underwear, there was a brownish stain. I knew what a period was supposed to be like-red blood, right? Well, I came out the restroom, told my dad that I thought something was wrong, that maybe I had started my period. He pointed me back to the car where my mom was waiting and said calmly "Go get your mom." She came into the restroom with me and said that I had indeed been welcomed into womanhood. On the was back from a football game in the winter of my 12th year.

parents who dont know how to keep their mouths shut!!!!

my first period happened when i was 11 years old, and i was the first girl in my grade to start. anyway......i had just got up to get ready for school and saw a small amont of blood in my panties. i was so embarrassed, and i didnt want to tell my mom. i looked in the cabinet to see of she had any pads, and of course she didnt. i was just gonna put one on and go to school. Anyway i told my mom and she hugged me and then she told me to go lay down. Then she went and told my dad! i was sooooooooooooo embarressed!!!!!!!! Anyway after my brothers and sister went to school she took me to the store and we got my first pack of pads. and she got me some chocolate. After the first few it was no big deal. and when I got old enough I upgraded to tampons.
