Pill to Paraguard
I was on various forms of the pill for 5 years. At the time I didn't realize that weight gain and inability to lose it was linked to the pill. In addition to this, I spent those 5 years severely depressed, not to mention my eventually non-existent sex drive.. It never occurred to me to think the Pill had anything to do with it.When I finally stopped taking it and the hormones got out of my system, it was like I was a new person. Losing weight, returned sex drive and my depression lifted. After having two children, I was afraid to try any other hormonal forms of birth control. I opted for a Paraguard, a non-hormonal IUD. Insertion was painless as I had it put in at 6 weeks pp. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about birth control for 10 years. I like that I know there aren't any other chemicals in my body. The drawback is the cramping before and during my periods, which I never had before. Not to mention the excessive amount of bleeding. (It's like my uterus is killing small animals.) But overall, it's worth it.
