Have you tried IUI with 5+ follicles developing?

I have been TTC for a year and have "unexplained fertility." My Obgyn thought I had PCOS, but my RE says no. Hormones have been decent, clear tubes, husband is normal, appear to be ovulating, so Dr. is at a loss.

My RE just put me on Clomid in preparation for my first IUI cycle, and we checked my follicle growth today (CD 11) and I have 4-5 follicles maturing on each ovary, ranging in size from 8-12 (whatever that means). He said we may have to forego the procedure this month and I'm crushed.

But he said that most of them may not mature. I'm just wondering how many mature eggs is "too many" - I definitely could not handle triplets or more, and twins would be very tough. What # of mature eggs are considered too risky? My Dr. says there is only a 5-15% chance of success for even one fertilization...

I guess I will go back in a few days and see how many have matured and make a final decision then, but if you have tried IUI and had multiple mature follicles going into it, could you let me know what you decided and your Dr. recommended?

I had an ultrasound a few months ago and we saw 4-5 follicles developing, but was not on Clomid. So it may not make a huge difference whether I am on Clomid or not. I may have naturally "overactive" ovaries... Anyone else been told this? Have you been diagnosed with anything related to it? I'm wondering if my Dr. is missing something. Thank you for your input!
