Contraceptive Choices

i couldn't take the pill because it gave me migraines. so the doctor put me on the depo shot and i stayed on it for 5 years. they took me off of it because i gained 30 pounds and i started having blood pressure problems. i have been off the depo shot for 18 months now and still did not have a period. i thought something was wrong with me so i decided to see my doctor and two weeks my doctor decided to put me on a medicine that would make me start and after taking the medicine for 7 days i finally started. the depo is different for everybody.

Im 24yrs old, ive been on the depo since i was 17, i think that its great for young women who are not very good at remebering to take the pill, the reason for me going on it was i suffered tender breasts while taking the pill, it worked great for me, ive now come off the depo because ive been reading about people who have been off it for up to 2yrs and there fertility had not returned, this scared me as sometime next year i would like to try for a baby, my last depo was due on the sept 15th and i had my first period on oct 21st with no help from any other form of contraception, so i expect it depends on your body, hopefully it wont be long before i get pregnant???

I'm 31 years old and I'm so ready for another baby but like one says its a waiting game. Yes the depo works by having no periods and don't have to worry about taking it for 3 months at a time but the down fall of it u do gain weight but then again depends on the person. I went off of it do to the weight gain i didn't want to become diabetic for it runs in the family with weight gain. I have been off of the depo for now 13 months and nothing. We're trying to have a baby and when i went off of the depo i haven't even been on the pill to help me along of getting pregnant and nothing to this day.

I got off the pill because a few months after starting the pill I got the worst migraines. I had never had migraines before and I thought that the pill might be causing them. My doctor didn't agree with my theory but I knew it was worth a try. I got off the pill and got an IUD. I will be honest here it did hurt getting it put in. I sat up after it was all over and said "That wasn't too bad". Then I felt nausea and I got really sweaty. He told me just to lie back down and wait a little bit. I did and I was fine. I did feel it for the first few days, but after that I was fine. My periods are heavier, but they were before I got on the pill anyway. I really don't mind that. The IUD is awesome. I would recommend it to anyone.

I was on various forms of the pill for 5 years. At the time I didn't realize that weight gain and inability to lose it was linked to the pill. In addition to this, I spent those 5 years severely depressed, not to mention my eventually non-existent sex drive.. It never occurred to me to think the Pill had anything to do with it.

When I finally stopped taking it and the hormones got out of my system, it was like I was a new person. Losing weight, returned sex drive and my depression lifted. After having two children, I was afraid to try any other hormonal forms of birth control. I opted for a Paraguard, a non-hormonal IUD. Insertion was painless as I had it put in at 6 weeks pp.

I like the fact that I don't have to worry about birth control for 10 years. I like that I know there aren't any other chemicals in my body. The drawback is the cramping before and during my periods, which I never had before. Not to mention the excessive amount of bleeding. (It's like my uterus is killing small animals.) But overall, it's worth it.

I used depo for almost 5 years I love not having periods and I never had to worry about taking it. It was great. but now me and my husband have been trying for 10 months to conceive. i have read all the stories about depo causing infertility and now i worry every day. i dont think i will ever use bc other than condoms in the future.i dont like the waiting game.
