First Period Experience
Where were you when your first period started? How old were you? Did you talk to your mom, friends? What was your initial reaction? Retrospectively, could it have been different or more positive experience, and, if so, how?

First Period Experience
not good!
I got my first period when I was eleven. We were having our house painted and I was staying at my aunt's. I woke up with terrible back cramps, nauseated, and the worst headache. I told her I couldn't go to school because I had the flu. Later I found out It was not the flu, but my period. I was completely mortified that this happened at my aunt's and not at my own home, where of course all my stuff was. Definately not a good experience for me.

Welcome to Womanhood
I was in 5th grade, so I think I was what, 12? It was on gym day, so I had my gym uniform on (navy blue sweatshirt and sweatpants). I went to the bathroom at lunch with a few friends and when I looked in my underwear I was like "Oh my gosh!" and my friends asked "what's up?" and I said "I think I got my period!" LuckilyI had a pad with me, because mom had given me the talk earlier that year. I always had one in my school bag in case of emergencies, so I went back to my classroom, snuck a pad into my pocket, and ran back down to the bathroom.
When I got home, and called my mom at work. I told her I got my period, and she started to cry! She was sobbing saying "My little girl is growing up!" and when she came home, she took me out for ice cream.
I wouldn't say it was necessarily embarrassing. She had always been supportive with that sort of thing (I have an older sister) so it was actually kind of fun "embracing womanhood".

saved from embarressement
I was 10 years old when Aunt Flo came to visit for the first time!!I wasn't extremly worried because my older sister had just started hers the year before.I remembered all the fss my mom made and how badly her and my brother embarressed my sister so i never bothered to tell anyone.I hid it from my mother for 2 years until one day i started on my way to baseball practice and had to go home to grab a pad and change. My dad ended up telling me that he knew all along but he wasnt going to tell my mom, knowing full well why i wasnt telling her myself.

Flu and my first period
I was unlucky enough to get my first period when i was 11 yrs old. I had been home sick from school for two days with the flu and on the second day it came. When I work up from a nap I found a dozen pink roses on my dresser from my mom. I was the first of all my friends to get their period and i hated it.

Aunt Flo for a First
I was (thank the lord)at home. I was 15 and I was watching my sisters while my parents went out. I went to the bathroom and just so happened to look at my underwear. My first thought was CRAP!!!! I panicked and since my mom wasn't home I didn't know where her pads were. So I used toilet paper and I obviously had to keep getting up and changing. Two hours later my parents finally came home. I was reherssing what I was going to say to my mom in my head. She went downstairs and got on the computer. I finally said 'Mom, Aunt Flo came to visit' She was like 'Who'??? She taught me Aunt Flo so I was like 'AUNT FLO' She caught on and was like why are you just sitting there. Then she told my stepdad. POssibly the worst night of my life. It probably couldn't have been anybetter, I think if my parents were home at first it would have made it WAY more awkward/

Putt Putt Period
I was out playing Putt Putt Golf with my mom's ex. I didn't feel anything because it was really hot outside and I just figured the moisture was from the heat and the sweat. So I went to the bathroom and low and behold, there it was. I just stuck toilet paper there since I knew what it was, I'd had the talk with my mom the year before, and finished my game. For some reason I didn't want to tell my mom so I continued using toilet paper for about 3 days. Well one day I went to adjust the temp on the AC in the apartment, my mom saw the blood on my panties and asked me if I'd started my period and I said yeah and she asked me why I didn't tell her. She was a little upset...but went out and got me what I needed.
