When do you take a pregnancy test?

Well usually I have a period every 45 days or so. But right now i'm like a week and a half late and still nothing. I was having pretty bad cramps last week like I was having a period with out the actually period no spotting,discharge nothing. Lately I have been having heartburn and some nausea. After four tests though I still have all BFN. Has anyone ever had a preg test show negative that late after thier period? If so how long after your period until you actually got your BFP? Is it possible for me to be pregnant?

Hey. I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I was supposed to get my period on Thanksgiving but it didn't occur to me that I was pregnant because my cycles used to be messed up. So I decided to take a test about a week later when my boobs were still really really sore. It came out positive... like REALLY positive. Big fat blue line instantly!
Last year I took an early test and it came out faint positive and I ended up getting my period a day late and I was upset because I knew what happened. I'd wait about a week after your period is due to take a test just to be on the safe side =)

From conception to implantation can take nearly 2 weeks, so the pregnancy hormone usually won't show in a urine test until then. So there's really no point testing until 2 weeks after you ovulate.

It's horrid to wait, but testing any earlier and one of 2 things could happen:

- you'll get a negative result but could still be "pregnant" - i.e. egg's been fertilised but hasn't fully implanted so you don't have enough pregnancy hormone. then it's a bit of shock later on!

- you'll get a positive result but then may get a very heavy period - then you'll know that the egg was fertilised but didn't implant properly so you've had a really early MC

Both are not nice.

So I say wait, if you're pregnant, YAY! If not, there's lots of fun to be had trying the next month

OK-So I posted my current situation on another thread-
basically, I've been getting very very faint lines on my preg tests-this is the 3rd one I've gotten. I got one last Friday (nov 20th), that Sat the 21st and today (the 26th). The thing is, I started with a brownish discharge Sat the 21st, and had bleeding and spotting this week on and off. It started pretty near my expected period-but it hasn't been like a period for me.
So I called the doc to see if I could get a blood test-I'd be on day 35 (even though I do have longer cycles). But they said they wouldn't give me one! She said they don't reccomend testing until 2 full weeks after you would miss your period!
This was news to me.
I know that if I m/c or still am-theres nothing I could do anyway. But I'd like to know once and for all if I am or if I'm not.
I have all the preg symptoms I got with my daughter. Its so weird.
Anyone else heard of testing this late???

Well my first pregnancy was a "Surprise." I kept thinking my period wasn't coming due to so much stress at that time of my life. Now we have been trying to concieve for almost a year and nothing. I was on clomid due to not ovulating reg, but whoa on the mood swings, no more of that. Since I am so ready to complete our family I test about 2 days before my period and if it is late again on that day. I am just so ready and to anxious. I told my husband let's not buy any more pregnancy test, until I am about 90% that we are pregnant.

I hate the wait to see if my period comes!! I test a couple of times before it's due- usually at 5 days before and again 2 days before.I get so excited you know?! But the downfall is a negative result can really hurt. Testing is addictive =) but I'm going to wait this time! Wish me luck(And willpower)!
