Swimming in the red river

I was 15 years old, and a swimmer. I wasn't keeping track back then, I had only had my period for a few months. I didn't have a tampon with me, so when I was at the swim meet, I took paper towel, to make a pseudo-tampon. I remember standing up on the starting blocks of the meet with a red river running down my leg, puddling up on the block.

I wish that were the end of it, but part of my paper towel had been hanging out of my swim suit, and other parts of it ended up "floating" in the pool.

they had to do a 15 minute sanitary break... before the next group could go.

So that was the last year I swam!
