I like to talk about menstruation's connection to health and fertility, though sometimes I am concerned that saying that is kind of like "Ableism" or some other kind of prejudice against those who don't have periods or aren't fertile.
I don't like talking about menstrual "syndrome" or "symptoms". Those kind of words make it sound like a disease! I also don't like talking about "cramps" because I feel like that's a catch word. What does it actual mean?
I think in order to like talking about our periods it would help to have a better vocabulary with which to do so. In the words of Thomas Hardy, "It is difficult for a woman to define her feelings in a language which is chiefly made by men to express theirs." Whatever contributions women made/make to English, there aren't many in reference to this very prominent aspect of our lives.
