Already know about low sperm count - should I TTC naturally?

Ok, I've known my husband had a super low sperm count (3 - 10 million per mililiter) before we got married. He's 30 and I'm 28 (I've never been tested but he had a vericocele when he was younger that's why he knows). We are TTC. They say you have to try to get pregnant on your own for a year before seeing a doctor but because we already know, is it ok to go now? I want to see what I'm dealing with and if there is any hope in this world of having a baby before I get my hopes up too high. Thanks for any advice! Baby dust to all!
