Late periods & false negatives, miscarriages...STRESS!

First of all is there a legend on this site anywhere that defines all these abbreviations/acronyms? I've been a member of this site for several years, but mainly just to track my cycle. I'm just now getting into the baby stuff! Some I have figured out, some I still have no idea what they are! Anyway...
So, I'm on day 38 of my cycle. No flow. Have taken 5 HPT's (I know this one!) over the last week, all negative. Feeling tightness and cramping in my lower abdomen and a little nausea, but not experiencing any other pregnancy symptoms. My cycle has been like clockwork for most of my life (regular 28 day cycle), however has been acting weird the last 6mos to a year. My shortest cycle was 17 days, longest to date was 35. I was late last month as well, but started on the 32nd day. I figure, I should go to Doc, but something similar has happened to me before and even those tests initially came back as negative or faint positive and all ended in miscarriage. So, do I just wait it out and see or should I go to Doctor and see what those tests say? Then go from there? I have insurance, so not worried about the cost of the doctor visit, just don't want to waist the time if the tests are inconclusive and I end up miscarrying again, but on the other hand, the waiting and the not knowing is driving me crazy!! On the other-other hand, knowing and then preparing, then miscarrying is just as stressful so I'd almost rather just not know until I know. Make sense? Ugh! What would you do?
