get period while pregnant?

I have been feeling extremely nauseous all day today and feeling cramps in my stomach, some aversion to food, last time I felt this way was when I was pregnant with my first daughter (at that time I knew it was pregnancy symptoms because I had actually missed my period and was over a week late). This time though, I had my period last week (a few days early than I was due) - it lasted a few days, but my periods usually only last 2-3 days. There is conflicting info online about whether women can get their period while pregnant.
Not sure if I want to go out and buy a pregnancy test yet, we're ready for number two, but haven't been actively trying. Anyone else have a similar experience?
