When Did You Decide Baby Names?

I had three girl names and three boys names picked out. My coworker kept calling my unborn Macy. We didn't know it was gonna be a girl. So when the doctor asked what her name was I just said Macy. I found the name in a baby book. She was born in 03 and now I hear that "My so-and-so's daughter named her little girl Macy. Most of the time it is spelled different though. Her middle name is Christine, after my husbands Grandma.

I had one name picked out for a long time and then about two months before she was due my entire family informed me that they didn't really like the choice.

I gave them a different first name and had each of them submit a middle name and we voted. My eldest daughter won and there is a really cute story behind why she picked the middle name and how my youngest got her name.

That is truly admirable, those of you who can just wait patiently for the right name to come. But as for me, I just couldn't quite relax until I had a name for my baby. It seemed too important.

With my daughter, we wanted something unique, but not bizarre. At about 3 month along, I was watching a movie (Somewhere in Time) in which there was a character named Elise McKenna, but everyone called her Miss McKenna. It was perfect. 12 years ago, when I had her, I had never heard even one person named McKenna. Now, of course it is more common.

The really annoying part was my mother-in-law. Up until the day of the birth, she kept saying, "It's not too late to change it. I think you should name her Mary." What??? How does that fit our requirement of being unique? Then my husband told me that's the name she wanted to name one of her own children. As far as I'm concerned, she had her chance to name children (she had seven!)

With my son, we had a harder time. We really hadn't found a name we loved, but I was already about 8 months along. I was teaching Sunday School: a story from the Old Testament. And then I saw the name Caleb. Again I thought, unique but not bizarre. And people don't read the OT like they used to, so there won't be any other Calebs. Wrong. That turned out to be a pretty popular name, as well. Or maybe I am just more aware of it.

When I was pregnant with Gwen, I was watching a soap opera at the time. There was a character named Gwen. I dont know why, but it just stuck with me. Plus, I have never met a Gwen, so it was unique for the family and not a common name in our area either. I was probably 6 to 7 months when it was final. Then when I was pregnant with Erin, some women at my grandma's bank that she worked with were throwing around baby name ideas. And this woman named Sue, who's daughter is about the same age as Gwen, said that she liked the name Erin. And for some reason out of all the name suggestions that one just stood out. We had a difficult time, cause my husband loved the name Avery. And I loved the name Kate for a middle name. Needless to say we decided on Erin Avery. We decided that before I gave birth to her. I don't think it really matters when you pick a name and when it's appropriate to start calling the baby that. It's your pregnancy and your baby, do what you want.

I tried real hard to spend all nine months planning on the perfect baby name. As most of you know that is a hard chore and NEVER works out the way you planned. My first child, a girl I had a name picked out but as soon as she was born I changed it.My 2nd child, a boy same thing till 3 days before he was born I was watching a show and named my son after an actor.My third child was a boy but was suppose to be a girl, had the name picked out and well had to change that. I dont think my son would have been happy with "Julia".So as we all know some plans work out and some just don't but dont stress.

we decided on our babys name during pregnancy. we didnt find out what sex we were having but i strongly thought it was a girl so chose a girls name first, which we agreed on at 4 months. then at 8 months pregnant we thought we best pick a boys name, which we struggled on but eventually chose one!!!! then when i gave birth we had a little girl, my gut instict was correct, who needs scans to tell u the sex.... most people know for themselves!!!
