No Periods, Less Periods

Period suppression is currently a very hot topic. Will you (or do you already) take prescription meds to stop your period, or to have less periods a year? Why or why not?

Been there, Done that!!!!

Been there, done that! And what a bad experience it was I currently use a copper IUD and with the extremely heavy flow that comes with that my doctor mentioned Seasonale to lighten or get rid of my cycle all together. Bad idea! Not only did this not work it had a reverse effect I started my cycle after beginning the pill 6/06 and bled everyday through 8/03/06 when my doctor figured that it may be the pill. when I say that messing with Mother Nature is not the thing to do I mean it. I will stick with using the IUD as the heavy cycles are becoming a thing of the past but I definitely will not try to go w/out my cycle again.

Birth Control debates

Periods! We all have them, even when we're on DEPO or some other BC pill. I took DEPO for 5 years and a daily BC pill for 2 and a half years. The last BC I took was Seasonale and to be honest with you, I liked it. Unfortunately, now I'm trying to get pregnant and having a very hard time doing it. Birth Control is great for a few reasons only: Migrane control, heavy bleeding, acne, and PMS. I do miss taking for the acne control. I probably won't take it agian, even though I don't plan on having more than one child.

I'd rather have my natural cycle

I've been on Depo, where I had no periods and loathed it. It feels absolutely weird having flat level hormones all the time, even if it did knock out my migraines. Anyway, now that I use a menstrual cup the bleeding part of periods isn't a hassle. So I use a copper IUD for contraception, slightly heavier periods but mine are light anyway. Unfortunately I sometimes get bad PMS, but even though the doctor's offered me Cerazette, a progestogen-only pill that would probably stop my periods, I'm going to treat it with diet, light therapy and so on as far as I can.

PCOS is enough for me...without pills to take away my period

I will not take anything to supres my periods. PCOS has already done that for me and I'm desperately trying to have periods. I want kids so I need all my eggs.

I'll let mine hang around a few more years!

I think I'm opposed! My sister in law did the shot and it totally messed with her system! I'm young and would love to have kids someday! But some period suppression methods take a long time to regulate out of your body! and i dont want to have to deal with waiting even longer when i do decide to have kids! sure it's convienent to not have a period... but how convienent is it to screw up your bodily functions for the rest of your life...

RESEARCH or DON'T DO IT!!!!

Hi all,

About 4 years ago I went on the Depovera Shot to stop having my cycle. You take it once every three months with minor discomfort and you would not have to worry about taking something everyday or once a week. It was perfect for me because I worked in a high stress invironment. I knew I would never remember to do any of that stuff everyday so I did it. Well it worked!!! However ladies keep in mind that things that surpress your body's normal functions are chemical hormones and these things have side effects. I stopped using the shot after 3 times because I put on almost 60lbs in less than a year went from a size 6-to 18, my hair started shedding and breaking off, I was almost always tired and irritated, found cycsts on my ovaries, and then it took me about three years for my period to come back because my body was all screwed up from the shot. I will never mess with my body's natural functions again. I have learned my lesson. Ladies listen to someone with experience, please know that if something appears to good to be true, it probably is!!! If you must do something to surpress your period. RESEARCH!!! RESEARCH!!!!! RESEARCH!!!!!!
