Positively Period

Talk menstrual cycle and we talk lots of negatives: period days, cramps, the PMS blues...

But is there anything, or even many things, that you like about your monthly cycles?

Letting it Go

I really enjoy the, for me necessary, monthly reminder that it is time to let go of things that are no longer useful to me, and make room for creation and creativity. I'm not doing anything so literal as TTC, but my period is a time every month that I stop and take stock of what is working for me in my life and what is not. I think about things that I have been doing or holding onto that no longer serve me in a purposeful way, and let them go as my body let's go of all the junk it's been saving up for a baby that didn't come and therefore it has no use for. I enjoy the feeling of release and cleansing that I experience with every gush.

I also really tap into my womanhood, not in a I'm-so-much-more-powerful-than-man way, but in a way that honors and values my unique abilities without devaluing the abilities of the wonderful man who rubs my belly, whether I have cramps or not.

For me, it is a time of self-relection, cleansing, and rejuventaion that prepares me for all my womanly duties throughout the rest of my cycle.

I finally caught up to my friends!

My period makes me feel "normal". When I was younger I was the last one out of my friends to get her period, and once I did it made me feel part of the group. I still feel that way now, I'm able to relate to my friends more and ask questions and help answer theirs. I also enjoy my period because it reminds me that even though I do have problems with my uterus, there's still hope that I can have kids.

Great things about moon time!

Many times, people pass off irritability as just being a grouchy part of PMS; but what I have found is that once a month my body makes me pay attention to all those little things that annoy me regularly but usually get shoved out of view as unimportant. It's like my body is saying, "Hey! Stop pretending that it doesn't bother you when someone takes a disrespectful tone with you!" or whatever it may be that I'm getting upset about. Since the spotlight is on these issues, I can deal with them constructively instead of letting them fester.

My dreams are also frequently more vivid and prophetic during my moon time, and often they show me interesting things about my inner workings if I pay attention.

The fact that I am more tired during this time is a good excuse to slow down and take better care of myself, something everyone needs to do from time to time.

Libido!

I fully realize that I am quite fortunate in that I do not suffer too badly when I am menstruating. And, I do find that my libido usually soars, particularly on Days 1 and 2 of my period. Because of this, I've worked on hubby over the years to get him to learn to enjoy intimacy during my period - and have him pretty well trained at this point (~smile). He was a little reluctant at first, but not any longer.

Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

I come from a backround when there is a very deffinate split between the genders, in terms of their roles and responsabilities. I was brought up to belive that being a woman is sacred, beautiful, and spiritual, that a mother's love is the closest thing on earth to God's love, that women are inherently closer to the divine, especially through the creation process. So for me, it's a monthly way to get in touch with creation, with my God, and my place in the world as a female.

I spend it praying, and studying the scriptures, talking with friends, dancing, singing, going outside and staring at the moon and stars, and wearing a special "diva" pin, my own personal declaration to the world that "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar!"
